1st part. Trip in 05/2010
In May/ June 2010 I walked from Temple Ryōzenji (霊山寺) to Temple 23 Yakuōji (薬王寺) - see turquoise marked dots. This was an extraordinary experience I wanted to continue soon.
I started walking without prebooking of accomodations, in general I had good luck and stayed in nice places.
As I speak a little bit Japanese I found travelling and communicating quite easy. Everybody is very helpful and friendly while you are on pilgrimage...but I found Japanese generally very friendly and helpful. Once or twice I went a wrong way and the people always helped, gave some O-Settai, sometimes I was moved to tears.
As I am a big addict to onsen I created a map including all onsen I found in the WWW.
Before my travel I bought this book:
An English mapbook for the Shikoku pilgrimage, including maps to the 20 bangai, Mt Ishizuchi and Koya-san
In June 2013 came an update.

2nd part. Trip in 05/2011
One year later I walked im May 2011 from Temple 23 Yakuōji (薬王寺) to Temple 28 Dainichiji (大日寺) near Kochi (see pink marked dots). Soo much rain, incredible. A Typhoon was hitting in the south of Japan, so the rain was warm. Sleeping in the tent was horrible with so much rain, everything wet for days...
Then, returning from temple 27 Kōnomineji (神峰寺) to Tonohama suddenly the rain stopped, clouds vanished.
Then I broke my right foot, got a fracture from walking too much with the wrong shoes. So I hat to stop at Temple 28 Dainichiji (大日寺) near Kōchi.
3rd part. Trip in 11/2011
In November 2011 I continued the pilgrimage - now with really good hiking boots - from Temple 28 Dainichiji (大日寺) near Kōchi until 37 Iwamotoji (岩本寺) in Kubokawa - see yellow marked dots.
For several days I walked together a a 70 year old Japanese sir. We chatted so much that once we missed the Temple 35 Kiyotakiji (清滝寺) and had to walk several more kilometers...sooo funny. On the way up there were some selling boxes where some tangerines were sold for 100 Yen. Oishiii!!!
We separated to walk alone and met randomly in a beautiful ryokan in Kubokawa.
4th part. Trip in 11/2012
In November/ December I planned to walk form Kubokawa ( T 37) to Uwajima or Ozu/ Iyoozu but halfway - in Otsu - I got soo sick with bronchitis. The reason: again rain for several days, the tent and clothes wet and me with cough. The landlady at the Minchuku in Otsu was very nice and helpful giving me some medicine.
From Temple 38 Kongōfukuji (金剛福寺) I walked the longer way to the west along the coast, see red line. Most Pilgrims walk from Temple 38 in Ashizurimisaki the same way back and turn in Shimanto left to Temple 39.
So I went from Otsu to Sukumo by bus, after some recovery I hiked to Temple 39 Enkōji (延光寺) and back.
Then I went by train to Matsuyama and I relaxed some days at some Onsen there.
5th part. Trip planned in 08/2014
see purple line, from Ōtsu to Uwajima. The first 2 days it was rainy and approx. 17 degrees C, it was ok to walk.
The first night I spent under a pilgrims hut in Ōura, a neighbour came and gave me as Osettai something to eat and drink. The night was beautiful with view over the harbour and the sea.
I woke up and walked around 29 km to a beautiful hut a little bit north of Sukumo. In a little creek behind the hut I washed me and my clothes, I was already muddy as I stumbled.
From Sukumo over the mountain was horrible, as the previous Taifuns left the ground muddy, with fallen trees. I was so dirty. In the afternoon it started to be very hot, like 35 degrees. At T44 was a Matsuri, a little festival where I stayed for some time. I decided to walk only to a park and pitch my tent there.
The next day was hot too, so I walked to Yurari Uchi Umi Onsen and pitched my tent at the campsite nearby. It cost only 300 Yen, I did laundry, soaked in the Onsen and had a leasure afternoon among some japanese families. The onsen had a restaurant.
In the night it rained, but was still hot. I walked soooo slowly, that it took me 2 days to reach Uwajima. I rested in each little piece of shadow I found...
